Cutting the cost of charging electric vehicles by 22 per cent

New Zealand Post, New Zealand’s leading postal delivery company, needed to reduce the cost of charging a new fleet of 500 electric vehicles as mail volumes declined. PA Consulting was brought in to assess the best charging options and help the business manage both economic and environmental costs.

PA Consulting evaluated eight charging and tariff scenarios, including optimized electricity tariffs, better charging times, and smart controls to pause charging when prices were high. The work identified annual savings of 22% compared with New Zealand Post’s existing charging approach, and the company is now validating the options site by site as it rolls out the electric fleet.
