Case Study: National Institute for Health Research modernises clinical research IT with PA Consulting

Bringing IT up to date and making it easy for thousands of medical practitioners to use

PA Consulting worked with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network Coordinating Centre to modernize its IT and make it easier for thousands of doctors, nurses, and other medical practitioners to use. NIHR needed a more flexible way to manage and track large numbers of research projects and clinical trials, while supporting collaboration across hospitals, universities, and research centres.

PA Consulting migrated NIHR’s systems to the cloud, developed a new system for updating and tracking clinical trial progress, and created the Join Dementia Research service. It also delivered a self-service support portal with live chat and instant messaging, plus training and support for 23,000 users. The result was scalable, cost-effective infrastructure that can handle traffic spikes of 500 to 50,000 users, and a service desk that resolves 90% of calls first time and 98% of incidents within target.
