Case Study: AstraZeneca achieves 4x faster inhaler testing with PA Consulting

Automating high-throughput inhaler testing

AstraZeneca needed a new approach to high-throughput inhaler testing because its existing analytical test automation could not be efficiently upgraded or replicated to meet future product-testing capacity needs. AstraZeneca engaged PA Consulting to help define the requirements for a replacement system, including a User Requirements Specification (URS).

PA Consulting then developed the full system, using its Global Innovation and Technology Centre in Cambridge, UK, to build prototypes and control software for the key modules. The resulting machines met the specification and generated test data four times faster than the previous systems, significantly improving AstraZeneca’s testing throughput.
