A Oxford Medical Simulation Case Study
Oxford University faced limited access to traditional high-fidelity simulation, where mannequin-based training is time-, space- and budget-consuming, meaning students often only experienced one simulation per year. To expand training opportunities they partnered with Oxford Medical Simulation to bring its virtual reality simulation platform (delivered via Oculus headsets) into the curriculum so students could practice acute medical emergencies repeatedly without risking patients.
Oxford Medical Simulation deployed immersive, fully interactive VR scenarios at the OxSTaR centre at the John Radcliffe Hospital, providing libraries of clinical cases, real-time recording and an automated feedback engine. The solution allowed a far greater number of learners to access simulation in a shorter space of time, increased student uptake and supported repeated deliberate practice to build clinical decision-making, competence and confidence—work that aims to translate into improved patient care.
