Canadian Court modernizes trial scheduling in 18 months with OXD

A Canadian court faced the challenge of an inequitable "first-to-call" phone system for scheduling trials, which disproportionately favored larger, well-resourced law firms and created significant barriers to justice. To address this access inequality and the associated stress for users and staff, the court partnered with vendor OXD to modernize the process.

OXD designed and implemented a digital scheduling system featuring a fairness-focused algorithm. This solution replaced the phone scramble with an online request process, leading to fairer date allocation, an 18-month planning horizon, and reduced operational stress. The new system successfully processed a significant volume of requests fairly in its first month, establishing a model for equitable justice service delivery.
