Case Study: U.S. Navy achieves near-real-time secure ship-to-port data transfer with Owl Cyber Defense data diode

A Owl Cyber Defense Case Study

U.S. Navy transfers ship data in near real-time with Owl Cyber Defense

The U.S. Navy required a method to securely transfer operational data generated by its ships' industrial control systems to third-party vendors port-side. The challenge was to provide this data without exposing the secure ship network to external cyber threats, moving away from a slow, manual process that used portable media. To meet this challenge, the U.S. Navy worked with Owl Cyber Defense.

Owl Cyber Defense implemented its OPDS data diode solution to create a deterministic, one-way data transfer path from the ship network to port-side users. This solution from Owl replaced the need for portable CDs, enabling data to be transferred in near real-time instead of taking multiple days. The ship's network remained secure from outside threats, and the risk of contaminated portable media was completely eliminated.
