Case Study: a US-based natural gas power plant achieves NERC CIP v5 compliance and vendor remote monitoring with Owl Cyber Defense OPDS-100

A Owl Cyber Defense Case Study

US-based Natural Gas Power Plant achieves NERC CIP v5 compliance with Owl Cyber Defense

A US-based natural gas power plant faced the challenge of meeting NERC CIP v5 cybersecurity regulations, which required disconnecting its critical operational technology networks from all external access. This requirement conflicted with its service level agreement, which mandated that its turbine vendor have access to monitoring data. To resolve this, the plant turned to vendor Owl Cyber Defense and its OPDS-100 data diode solution.

Owl Cyber Defense implemented its OPDS-100 data diodes to create a deterministic, one-way outbound data flow from the plant's OT network. This solution allowed the plant to achieve full compliance with NERC CIP v5 regulations by eliminating all inbound threats while successfully enabling the secure transfer of turbine operations data to the vendor's global monitoring center, thus meeting its SLA.
