A bulk electric system operator faced the challenge of meeting NERC CIP v5 cybersecurity regulations, which required disconnecting its substation OT networks from external access. The customer needed to eliminate these threats while still allowing business end-users remote access to critical OT data from their PI System and OPC servers. To solve this, they worked with Owl Cyber Defense and deployed the OPDS-100D data diode.

Owl Cyber Defense implemented its OPDS-100D data diodes alongside specialized replication software to create a deterministic, one-way data transfer from the OT to the IT network. This solution enabled the secure replication of both PI System historian and OPC data for remote monitoring. As a result, the customer successfully achieved compliance with NERC CIP v5 regulations by eliminating all inbound threats while maintaining essential business continuity and operational insight.
