A oVirt Case Study
Nieuwland Geo-Informatie, a software company from the Netherlands, faced the challenge of managing its growing number of virtual machines powering its mobile and geospatial applications. They needed a cost-effective and robust virtualization management platform, as proprietary solutions like VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V were too expensive and disruptive to their existing Linux-based infrastructure. They turned to the open-source oVirt platform for a solution.
Implementing oVirt provided Nieuwland with a centralized management system, eliminating the need for cumbersome command-line administration across their five hypervisors. Key benefits included live migration capabilities and a supportive open-source community. The solution was so successful that Nieuwland is planning a future, fully redundant infrastructure also based on oVirt. The vendor's platform enabled the company to reliably run 70-80 virtual machines, which are critical to its business operations, at a fraction of the cost of enterprise alternatives.
