Florida State University RCC Adopts oVirt Over Cloud

The Research Computing Center (RCC) at Florida State University required a more straightforward virtualization platform to manage the services supporting its high-performance computing efforts. Their previous solution, OpenStack, was overly complex for their researchers' needs. The RCC turned to the vendor oVirt to replace their cloud infrastructure with a more flexible solution.

The solution from oVirt was implemented on existing server hardware, proving so effective in testing that it was quickly moved to production. The migration from the KVM-based OpenStack environment was smooth. As a result, oVirt now successfully supports 60 users across 20 academic departments, running 42 virtual machines on its platform, with plans to upgrade to more powerful hardware for even greater performance.
