Oversight & Concur Strengthen Financial Controls for American Bureau of Shipping

American Bureau of Shipping, a not-for-profit ship classification society with more than 5,000 employees and headquarters in Houston, Texas, needed a better way to review its travel and entertainment expenses. Its four-person team was reviewing about 5,000 expense reports every month, and the company wanted to move beyond manual checks for duplicates, unusual spending patterns, and FCPA risks.

ABS implemented Oversight Systems’ Oversight Insights On Demand and integrated it with Concur Expense and Concur Travel. The solution automated data analysis, gave managers dashboards with visibility into spend and compliance, and helped ABS identify non-compliant expenses and high-risk transactions in real time. ABS said the system made employees more aware that expense reports were being analyzed and gave executive management and the audit committee added comfort that transactions were being reviewed.
