University of Otago streamlines collaboration for 30+ researchers with Overleaf

The University of Otago's MARS bio-imaging research group, consisting of over 30 PhD students and staff, faced a significant challenge with knowledge transfer. It was difficult for members to know what their colleagues were working on, and documenting research for both current and future students was a major problem. The group needed a cloud-based platform for real-time collaborative documentation.

The solution implemented was Overleaf, an online LaTeX editor. Using Overleaf made collaborative document creation seamless and hassle-free, allowing multiple students to work on the same large documents simultaneously. This solved the group's knowledge transfer issue by creating a living guide of research that will benefit both current and future students. The university plans to formally propose Overleaf as the group's collaboration tool and will conduct regular workshops to encourage its adoption.
