On a Mission to Modernize Product Portfolio, Post Office Delivers Their First App Fast With OutSystems Low-Code

Post Office, the U.K. financial services retailer with 11,500 outlets and access to some 17 million customers, set out to modernize its product portfolio and create new revenue streams by launching a B2C native mobile app for travel money and insurance. The challenge was fast time to market for a first-ever native app, strict financial regulations, and complex integrations with legacy systems managed by third parties, all while needing strong security, code reuse, and data insight.

Using OutSystems low-code, the Business Innovation team built, tested, and launched Post Office Travel for iOS and Android in just four months—letting customers buy and manage Travel Money Cards, add travel insurance, and find nearby branches/ATMs with GPS, while integrating with partners like First Rate Exchange Services, Post Office Insurance, and Accenture. The app reached over 100,000 users in the first three months, dramatically shortened development time, simplified backend integration, and now serves as the foundation for Post Office’s wider digital strategy.
