Loudoun County Public Schools Escapes Technical Debt with OutSystems Low-code Development

Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS), the third-largest school district in Virginia with 97 campuses, faced a growing backlog and high maintenance burden from more than 35 legacy web applications supported by just five developers. The disparate technologies produced inconsistent user experiences and slowed enhancements, limiting the district’s ability to respond quickly to student, family, and staff needs.

LCPS adopted OutSystems low-code in October 2020 to accelerate development and standardize UX, delivering a student opportunities portal and summer school registration system within six months and reusing modules to speed subsequent projects. The district gained responsive UI templates, SSO integration, automated processes, improved data sharing and BI access, and markedly lower maintenance time and cost—enabling agile delivery, better user experience, and plans to migrate the remaining apps.
