Life Healthcare’s Progressive Web Apps Help Stop the Spread of COVID-19 and Save Lives

Life Healthcare, one of South Africa’s largest private healthcare providers operating across 66 facilities and 286 outpatient locations, needed an urgent way to monitor staff wellness and stop COVID‑19 spread among patients and employees. With guidance changing daily and app‑store deployment slow or banned for COVID apps, the organization required a fast, flexible solution to collect daily staff screenings and deliver timely advice and intervention.

Using OutSystems, Life Healthcare and partners built a progressive web app (PWA) and the LifeRISK suite in weeks—bypassing app stores while offering native‑like features, dashboards, case management, telemedicine and site access control. The solution onboarded 40,000 employees in the first two weeks and now supports 70,000+ users, with more than 2 million check‑ins, ~16,000 daily assessments, 11,043 alerts processed and over 6,000 risk cases managed—reducing workplace contamination risk and saving clients significant costs.
