IOOF Gives Developers a New Lease on Life With OutSystems

IOOF, a wealth management firm in Australia, was in the middle of a major IT modernization effort but faced a shortage of developers with up-to-date technical skills. With high-priority digital projects piling up, IOOF needed a faster way to reskill its legacy development teams and unlock their business knowledge, so it turned to OutSystems low-code development.

Using OutSystems, IOOF ran an internal app competition to identify and train low-code advocates, pairing developers with business analysts and QA staff. The approach helped IOOF reskill and motivate staff quickly, and the first apps delivered real gains: one production app replaced 5,000 spreadsheets, trust payment approvals dropped from days to hours, and a manual 10-step process was cut to five. IOOF now has 15 developers using OutSystems across multiple projects.
