A OutSystems Case Study
A leading European airport operator partnered with OutSystems in 2003 to solve a critical operations challenge: delivering real-time flight information to mobile staff across ten airports serving over 55 million passengers annually. Before the project, processes relied on fragmented information sources, manual calls and texts, and heroic coordination to get cleaning, baggage, fueling, security and passenger-assistance teams to the right gate when schedules or gates changed.
OutSystems built a central information hub that aggregates IATA, ATC and EUROCONTROL feeds and exposes web services, an SMS gateway and native mobile apps so staff and third parties receive instant, subscription-based updates. The platform has grown into a 179-application suite across security, operations, commerce and customer service, supporting ~7,400 external users and 1,500 employees, ~194,000 app hits/day, an average of 90 notifications per flight (over 67 million notifications in a peak season), and continuous, bi-weekly deployments for a fault-tolerant, scalable airport operations system.
