Energias de Portugal (EDP), a major European energy operator processing about 55 million transactions (~€6 billion) annually, faced an outdated, fragile payments-collection system that couldn’t keep up with new digital payment channels or provide timely control over financial operations. The legacy platform was slow to change, prone to manual errors, and only revealed problems after customer complaints, so EDP needed a fast, risk-free modernization that wouldn’t interrupt mission-critical finance processes.

Using OutSystems, EDP built Collect, a modular, integrated payment-collection core that links SAP/Oracle, business units and banks to centralize and automate processing in real time. Collect now handles roughly 80% of collections, improved UX for 200+ agents, cut customization time by half, enabled early error detection, reduced complaints and duplicated work, and rolled out with zero operational interruptions.
