Dorel Juvenile, maker of Maxi‑Cosi car seats, formed a connected‑products team to add digital capabilities to its physical products and was tasked with building a smart app for the e‑Safety car‑seat cushion that alerts parents if a child is left unattended. With new “anti‑abandonment” legislation imminent in Italy and no prior mobile app experience, the company needed a fast, reliable solution and a way to control software development while working with a very small team.

Using the OutSystems low‑code platform (with implementation support from partner Phact), the team built an MVP in three months with essentially one developer, iterating in short sprints and validating with employee trials and 100 independent evaluators. The Bluetooth‑paired iOS/Android app sounds an alarm, can override silent mode, and sends SMS location if needed; it met surging demand, proved scalable and reliable, sped up product innovation, and opened opportunities for monetization and wider connected‑product experiments across the business.
