CommunO2 Uses OutSystems to Bring an End to Social Isolation at Scale

CommunO2 is a nonprofit technology company on a mission to end social isolation for aging and mobility-limited adults. After piloting a web-based community engagement app with Michigan’s Otsego County Commission on Aging, users demanded a mobile-first, easily updatable, and customizable solution—requirements that made adapting the original hand-coded prototype impractical.

Using OutSystems, CommunO2 rebuilt a mobile-first “SuperApp” in six months with one developer (versus three previously), delivering live streaming, face-to-face video, telehealth, secure messaging, digital libraries, multilingual support and built‑in accessibility. The platform enables rapid, days‑scale customizations and seamless updates, and now supports 175 organizations (with plans for 500 and a million users), while demonstrating clear social impact—reconnecting isolated individuals with family, services, and community.
