A OutSystems Case Study
Burton, the leading snowboarding equipment and apparel brand, faced shrinking margins as customer buying patterns shifted toward more online and mid-season purchases, leaving excess inventory in some regions and missed sales in others. To capture peak-season demand and avoid heavy postseason markdowns, the company needed a fast way to connect warehouses, stores and e-commerce so products would be available where and when customers wanted them.
Using OutSystems, two developers built a cross-channel logistics app in eight months to be live by Black Friday; the MVP took about 500 hours. The app lets employees locate and ship items from stores or warehouses via tablets, averaging 56 shipments per day (with sustained runs of 200+ daily) and delivering a 10x ROI in revenue. The solution reduced inventory carrying costs, minimized off-price sell-offs, and now supports Burton’s retail expansion into Europe and planned growth in Japan.
