BT Group plc, the UK's largest fixed-line, broadband and mobile provider, needed a fast way to keep engineers safe during COVID while visiting thousands of secure sites. Their legacy BASOL booking system was LAN‑bound and couldn’t warn of scheduling conflicts, and the Mobile Centre of Excellence wanted a more agile, faster development approach to deliver a field-safe solution.
A team of three developers and a tech lead used OutSystems to build a REST‑integrated mobile and web app—switching to a native mobile app for iOS push—delivering it from idea to deployment in two months, roughly three times faster than their previous method. The app enables onsite bookings, overlap alerts, push notifications and contact logging, delivering faster, more collaborative development and easier iteration while improving engineer safety and prompting wider adoption of the platform.
