Banco Santander Consumer Portugal, part of the Santander Group, provides consumer credit and was struggling to keep pace with a fast-changing market because successive mergers left it with a complex, hard-to-change IT landscape. Leadership set a goal to diversify and speed product and channel launches but needed to escape legacy inertia to deliver better digital experiences.
Working with KPMG, the bank selected the OutSystems low-code platform to build a new agile IT architecture (ESB, BPM and API-driven services) and develop reusable, mobile-first channels. In three years they replaced 70% of legacy core systems, launched 14 new solutions (including eCommerce, dealer portals and digital onboarding now adopted by >90% of partners), sped time-to-market, reduced maintenance cost and significantly improved customer experience and satisfaction.
