UDOT deploys Ouster BlueCity at 100+ intersections for safer traffic flow

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) sought to modernize its traffic infrastructure and improve safety for all road users. To address this, they partnered with Ouster, deploying Ouster's BlueCity intelligent traffic management solution across the state.

The solution implemented by Ouster involved installing its high-resolution digital lidar sensors and AI perception software at over 100 intersections. This created a real-time 3D digital twin, enabling dynamic signal actuation, enhanced protection for vulnerable road users, and supporting V2X communications. As a result, UDOT gained precise 24/7 detection of all traffic modes, reducing unnecessary idling and providing advance hazard warnings. Ouster's system was selected after a rigorous evaluation and integrated directly with UDOT's existing Econolite controllers.
