Case Study: Forterra advances military vehicle autonomy with Ouster lidar

A Ouster Case Study

Forterra ships 100+ autonomous vehicles and 400,000 miles with Ouster

Forterra, a developer of ground-based autonomy technology for the defense sector, faced the challenge of creating autonomous vehicle systems capable of navigating unstructured, off-road combat environments. These missions, such as delivering supplies, often occur in GPS-degraded, weather-impaired, and rugged conditions, demanding a flexible and reliable perception system. To meet this challenge, Forterra utilized Ouster's digital lidar sensors, including the OS series, as a core component of their solution.

Ouster's lidar sensors provided the rugged, reliable perception needed for Forterra's AutoDrive autonomy platform to operate in harsh, low-visibility environments like fog, dust, and rain. This solution was selected for four active U.S. Department of Defense programs. As a result, Forterra has shipped over 100 autonomous vehicles, which have cumulatively operated over 400,000 miles, helping to conduct reconnaissance and supply missions while keeping soldiers out of harm's way.
