A Otus Case Study

Preview of the West Valley Innovation Center Case Study

West Valley Innovation Center assigns 13,433 assessments with Otus

West Valley Innovation Center, part of the West Valley School District, needed a new platform to support its transition to competency-based learning after moving away from another K-12 grading product. Their challenge was to find a solution that could bring their grading model to life while providing clearer visibility into student learning for teachers, leaders, students, and families. They partnered with the vendor Otus to use its Assessments and Standards-Based Grading products.

Otus provided a solution that enabled the extensive use of rubric assessments to track mastery and make learning transparent. In its first full year, the school created over 13,000 assessments, with more than 12,000 being rubrics, solidifying the platform's central role in their grading model. The results included improved visibility for families and a more complete view of student performance for educators by integrating assessment data with attendance and other metrics. Otus also became the foundation for expanding into broader initiatives like MTSS and student plans.
