Transforming Teaching and Learning Wilmot Union’s Standards-Based Grading

Wilmot Union High School, a fringe rural school district in Wisconsin, sought to implement a standards-based grading (SBG) system to more accurately evaluate student learning and growth, moving away from traditional grading methods. The school faced significant challenges in finding a technological platform that could support this new philosophy and in getting educator buy-in for the substantial shift in practice. They turned to the vendor Otus for a solution.

Otus provided the ideal platform and critical support for Wilmot's transition. The solution included the Otus software for tracking student progress against standards and a robust support system featuring ongoing professional development and the Otus Certified Educator (OCE) program. The results were a reinvigorated teaching staff that reported one of their most valuable years, dramatically increased collaboration among educators, and a stronger ability to communicate individual student growth to parents and the community.
