The JuiceBox™ Charging Solution Leverages Data from Connected EV Network for Smart Charging and Grid Optimization

eMotorWerks, led by founder Dr. Valery Miftakhov, addressed the growing strain that electric vehicle (EV) charging places on the power system. With projections of 10 million U.S. EVs by 2025—potentially adding as much as 100 GW if charged simultaneously—concentrated, unmanaged charging and “dumb” chargers threaten local distribution, create volatility for utilities and ISOs, and could drive costly capacity upgrades.

Their JuiceBox Smart[Grid] Charging Platform uses the PI System (PI Server, Asset Framework, Asset Analytics, PI-to-PI, Coresight) to combine grid‑sensing hardware, real‑time smartphone/web control, cloud-based load management with sub‑3‑second local response, and an energy market engine. Nearly 5,000 units are deployed across all 50 U.S. states and Canada—managing up to 25 MW of peak load—helping shift and optimize charging to improve grid reliability, reduce costs and emissions, enable more renewable integration, and create a shared data ecosystem for new services.
