Monitoring health and performance of grid-scale battery installations

UniEnergy Technologies (UET), based in Mukilteo, WA, designs and deploys grid‑scale vanadium flow batteries for utilities, commercial customers and microgrids. Tasked with monitoring hundreds of cell‑level signals and backing containerized systems with capacity guarantees in often-remote sites, UET needed real‑time, scalable monitoring, automated reporting and service optimization to ensure performance, quality and cost‑effective maintenance.

UET deployed OSIsoft’s PI System—PI Server, PI Interface, Coresight, DataLink, Event Frames, Notifications and Manual Logger—to capture process, state and operational data from every cell, power automated alerts, 16 dashboards and weekly one‑page health reports. The system delivered cell‑level visibility, predictive maintenance and consistent service, reducing field visits, lowering costs and enabling UET to meet capacity guarantees while improving quality control and operational optimization.
