Case Study: Yorkshire Water achieves real-time system reliability and £1M+ annual savings with OSIsoft PI System

A OSIsoft Case Study

Preview of the Yorkshire Water Case Study

Managing water resources in real-time improves system reliability, scalability and revenue protection

Yorkshire Water, which supplies water and wastewater services to 4.7 million people across Northern England, was struggling with an aging, custom telemetry system that could not scale with rising data volumes or provide the operational visibility needed to manage pressure, flow, pump status and water quality across a vast, geographically diverse network. The limited telemetry threatened the company’s ability to meet environmental requirements, detect leaks and drive continuous improvement.

Yorkshire Water implemented the OSIsoft PI System (with an Enterprise Agreement) to integrate data from dozens of device types into a single, real‑time platform accessible in the field and office. The result was faster problem identification, predictive analysis and operational changes that delivered more than £1 million in annual savings—including £900,000 from energy optimization and £45,000 from reduced chemical use—along with improved leak detection, reduced water losses and better overall system reliability.
