Building Enterprise Intelligence with the PI Integrator for Business Analytics

CEMEX, a global building materials company operating 70 cement plants across 21 countries with annual sales over $15 billion, needed to standardize and add context to massive, inconsistent operational data and make it accessible across the enterprise. Over a 20-year journey they faced disparate equipment and practices, lengthy manual data extractions and consolidation (taking as long as two months or ~740 hours), and a need to democratize data so regional teams could self-serve reporting and analysis.

Using OSIsoft’s PI System (PI Server, Asset Framework, PI Integrator for Business Analytics, PI DataLink and High Availability), CEMEX standardized tag nomenclature, built AF models, and enabled direct extraction into SQL for self-service dashboards. The PI Integrator cut data extraction from 740 hours to about one hour, accelerated validation and reporting cycles, and unlocked enterprise visibility and cross-department collaboration so staff spend time on analysis and decisions rather than preparing data.
