A OSIsoft Case Study
ArcelorMittal Mines Canada is a pit‑to‑port iron ore operation that runs two open‑pit mines, a private port and a 420 km railway. After an expansion raised annual capacity targets from about 16 Mt to 26–30 Mt, the company faced severe logistics bottlenecks—especially at a single, space‑limited loading facility—and had to increase throughput without significant new capital investment.
Mines Canada built an Enterprise Information Hub on the PI System to integrate DCS/PLC, mine planning, railway dispatch and ERP data, applied Asset Framework and Event Frames to add operational and cost context, and deployed PI Coresight dashboards so everyone from operators to executives could act on the same real‑time KPIs. The solution improved responsiveness, fostered cross‑team collaboration, and helped the company hit its 2015 target of 26 million tonnes—about $120 million in additional revenue—while continuing to evolve supply‑chain integration.
