Barnes & Noble College, a campus bookstore operator for major academic institutions, faced a challenge with its inefficient and decentralized accounts payable process for general merchandise. The manual data entry of invoice details was time-consuming, prone to human error, and required significant part-time staff effort at each of its 770 stores. To address this, they partnered with vendor OSI Digital.

OSI Digital built a custom Optical Character Recognition (OCR) solution to automate the transcription of invoice data into a format for downstream processing. This solution streamlined the invoice process, eliminated transcription errors, and prevented duplicate invoicing. As a result of working with OSI Digital, Barnes & Noble College is now able to process invoices in a quarter of the time it took manually.
