A Ortec Finance Case Study

Preview of the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (hoopp) Case Study

HOOPP manages $110 billion in assets with Ortec Finance

The Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP), one of Canada's largest pension funds, sought a more sophisticated tool for integrated asset and liability modeling to better inform its strategic decisions. After the 2008 financial crisis, its existing risk analysis capabilities were rudimentary. HOOPP engaged Ortec Finance to find a solution that could analyze both sides of the balance sheet simultaneously using a consistent set of economic scenarios, ultimately selecting their GLASS platform.

Ortec Finance implemented its GLASS solution, which provided HOOPP with a powerful and flexible scenario modeling tool. The results were transformative, enabling the pension fund to conduct quick ad hoc analysis for board inquiries, test the impact of strategic decisions like benefit enhancements, and later assess climate risk with the integrated Climate MAPS scenarios. This allowed HOOPP to become far more strategic in its decision-making, preparing it for future challenges and contributing to its growth into a more complex organization.
