Rock Medicine Delivers Essential Medical Care at San Francisco’s Annual Pride Celebration

Rock Medicine, a nonprofit known as Rock Med, provides free medical care at major events across the West Coast. At San Francisco Pride, its supervisors and field teams faced the challenge of quickly locating mobile response units and maintaining reliable communication across a sprawling event, where traditional radios and manual coordination could slow response times. Orion Labs’ connected voice platform, including push-to-talk and GPS location tracking, was used to support their operations.

Orion Labs helped Rock Medicine streamline dispatch and field communication by enabling real-time team location tracking and quick over-the-air training on its rugged smartphones. When the primary radio system struggled with capacity and coverage, Rock Medicine expanded use of Orion to keep medics and dispatch connected, helping protect response times and keep EMTs focused on patient care. The solution supported more than 15 mobile response teams serving about 1.5 million Pride attendees, improving logistics and communication in a high-pressure environment.
