A Orion Health Case Study
Pinnacle Midlands Health Network, a primary health care organisation serving nearly 500,000 people across the Midland region of New Zealand, faced a systemic problem of children missing universal child health assessments and becoming lost to the system. To achieve its “No Child Left Behind” goal, Pinnacle Midlands engaged Orion Health to deploy the National Child Health Information Programme (NCHIP), leveraging Orion Health’s Consult (Clinical Portal), Coordinate (Healthcare Pathways) and Rhapsody integration engine to register every child at birth and track them against key milestones across primary, secondary, community, NGO and government providers.
Orion Health implemented NCHIP plus the Child and Youth Health Co‑ordination Service (CaY‑C) to consolidate data from multiple provider databases, provide a shared view of milestone histories, enable secure access and electronic referrals, and actively locate unregistered or overdue children. The solution rolled out in Waikato in November 2014, connecting 32,626 children to providers and identifying more than 6,000 children previously unknown to Waikato DHB’s Community Oral Health service, while streamlining registration, handovers and follow‑up; Orion Health is supporting planned regional and national expansion.
