The Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information faced the challenge of creating a province-wide, patient-centric electronic health record so authorized clinicians could access a single, consolidated view of patient data pulled from disparate systems. After an RFP process, NLCHI selected Orion Health to provide the infrastructure, using Orion Health’s Clinical Data Repository, Clinical Portal and Rhapsody Integration Engine to underpin the HEALTHe NL provincial EHR.

Orion Health implemented the HEALTHe NL solution—normalizing and aggregating immunizations, medication histories, lab results, images and clinical documents via Rhapsody and delivering web-based access through the Clinical Portal—while training NLCHI trainers and supporting rollout. The Orion Health-powered EHR now supports the Pharmacy Network with 614,879 medication profiles and more than 8,000 registered users (Dec 2019), helping reduce duplicate testing, improve clinician decision-making and enhance patient safety in settings such as emergency departments and mental health.
