New Brunswick Department of Health - gazing into the OPOR eye

The New Brunswick Department of Health set out to create a province‑wide electronic health record (One Patient, One Record) to consolidate fragmented patient data across hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories and diagnostic imaging for a bilingual population of about 756,800. To deliver this OPOR vision the Department selected Orion Health to provide Concerto, a Clinical Data Repository (CDR), a Provider Registry and the Rhapsody Integration Engine as the core integration and clinical viewer platform.

Orion Health implemented Rhapsody as the integration foundation and deployed its CDR/Concerto Clinical Viewer in a phased rollout, enabling lab systems (2010–2011), imaging (completed mid‑2012) and EMR/clinic integration (first clinic online 2013, 141 clinics onboarded). The solution migrated 90 million messages during a CDR consolidation, delivered 100% availability of dispense records (226 community pharmacies connected) and 100% of finalized lab and specific cardiology reports in the Clinical Viewer, sped reporting and doubled EHR access requests in 2016; Orion Health’s products also provided flexibility and standards support (HL7v3, FHIR) for ongoing expansion.
