A Orion Health Case Study
Inland Empire HIE, a non-profit public–private regional health information exchange covering more than nine million lives across 32 hospitals in seven states, needed a sustainable, fee-based technology foundation to give clinicians timely, secure, single-point access to patient records and to onboard many different EHR systems. To meet that challenge the organization selected Orion Health and implemented Orion Health Collaborative Care—powered by Orion Health Rhapsody Integration Engine and backed by the Orion Health Clinical Data Repository, Clinical Portal and add-on modules—to provide an open, flexible platform for long-term HIE operations.
Orion Health delivered a scalable interoperability solution that connects more than 18 EHR systems, standardizes longitudinal patient records via the Clinical Portal, and extends functionality with modules like Business Intelligence, Patient Portal and Rhapsody Connect. The deployment helped a public health laboratory avoid over $30,000 in interface costs, improved efficiency for a Federally Qualified Health Center through immunization registry access, enabled partnerships bringing 11,000 Medicare beneficiaries onto the exchange, and supported rapid participant growth—helping Inland Empire HIE remain self-sustaining and expand toward a 10–12 million patient footprint.
