Southern Cross Healthcare Limited, a private New Zealand elective surgery network with around 1,200 staff and roughly 1,000 system users, needed to replace high-volume paper clinical notes to improve legibility, availability and accuracy of frequent nursing documentation. They engaged Orion Health to deploy Orion Health Progress Notes powered by Care Pathways to standardise and digitise clinical documentation across their hospitals.

Orion Health implemented a centralised portal for searching, creating, editing and sorting notes (including SBAR and phone-call formats), piloting the solution in one hospital and going live across the network four months after initiation. The rollout delivered quick positive feedback (within two weeks), faster and more readable notes than paper, strong user buy‑in and tangible usage of more than 50,000 electronic notes per month, while improving communication, auditing and clinical accuracy.
