Hospira - Customer Case Study

Hospira, a global provider of injectable drugs and infusion technologies with about 19,000 employees, faced the challenge of moving away from custom interfaces to support standardized, IHE-based integrations so infusion pump data and barcode medication administration information could stream directly into hospital EMRs and create more complete longitudinal records. To address this, Hospira deployed the Orion Health Rhapsody Integration Engine alongside its Hospira MedNet safety software.

Orion Health’s Rhapsody allowed Hospira MedNet to support IHE profiles and HL7 transactions without changing MedNet software, with configurable interfaces that can run on the same server to reduce hardware and administration costs. The implementation eliminated custom interfaces, enabled real‑time pump data, event and alarm communications and point‑of‑care infusion verification, and delivered measurable benefits: improved documentation accuracy, enhanced patient safety by reducing manual keystroke errors, greater clinician efficiency, and simplified, lower‑cost integrations for hospitals.
