Case Study: HealthInfoNet (Maine’s statewide HIE) achieves trusted, reliable statewide HIE services and improved care coordination with Orion Health’s Healthier Populations suite

A Orion Health Case Study

Preview of the HealthInfoNet Case Study

HealthInfoNet delivers reliable HIE services to Maine healthcare providers

HealthInfoNet, Maine’s nonprofit statewide health information exchange, faced the need to give providers timely access to patients’ records across disparate systems and to prospectively identify high‑risk patients so they could implement prevention‑focused care management and sustain the HIE financially. To address this, HealthInfoNet selected Orion Health and its Healthier Populations suite to support a centralized data warehouse and provide scalable, secure technologies for clinical workflows and care coordination.

Orion Health implemented the Healthier Populations suite—including a clinical portal, data warehouse, customizable notifications, and a community information module—enabling broad adoption and measurable impact: records for ~1.65 million Maine lives (≈98% of residents) plus ~300,000 out‑of‑state lives; connections to more than 790 provider locations; over 5,200 active users; ~145,000 patient lookups per month; 20 million inbound messages and >50,000 real‑time alerts per month; and more than 1 million monthly transmissions to the Maine CDC. All participants have maintained subscriptions, user adoption continues to grow year‑over‑year, Maine’s crossover rate averages ~65%, and the HIE now offers national connectivity via the eHealth Exchange (including VA access).
