Health and Social Care Northern Ireland (HSCNI), the national health and social care board serving 1.8 million people across six HSC Trusts, faced fragmented clinical systems that left clinicians spending excessive time locating patient information and hindered timely decision-making. To create a single, web‑based, real‑time care record, HSCNI selected Orion Health to deliver an Electronic Care Record (ECR), leveraging Orion Health Consult and the Orion Health Rhapsody Integration Engine.

Orion Health implemented the regional ECR (delivered operationally by the Regional Business Services Organisation), integrating disparate systems to provide clinicians a single view of medications, labs, radiology and correspondence with built‑in audit and privacy controls. By September 2015 the solution had supported 775,000 unique patient records (43% of the population), 5 million user logins, 30 million lab results and 2.2 million radiology reports viewed, with 95.13% of users saying the NIECR saved them time and 79.6% reporting improved quality of care; Orion Health’s platform also helped win HSJ and EHI awards for data‑sharing and integrated services.
