A Orion Health Case Study
The Canterbury District Health Board, New Zealand's second largest DHB, faced a significant challenge following the destructive 2011 earthquakes, which disrupted access to patient records and damaged infrastructure. The challenge was to enable shared access to patient records across both secondary and primary care to provide better, more integrated care. Orion Health implemented its HealthOne solution, an electronic shared care record view, to address this.
The Orion Health solution created a single shared view of patient information, integrating data from GPs, pharmacies, and community care. This provided secure access to up-to-date patient data for timely and informed decision-making across the entire South Island. The results were significant, with over 1500 General Practice staff and 450 pharmacy staff gaining access. The solution was successfully extended to all five South Island District Health Boards, impacting over one million people.
