ACT Health, the ACT Government Health Directorate serving about 500,000 people and completing around 425 electronic discharge summaries per month at Canberra Hospital, needed to connect to the Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record (PCEHR) so consumers could participate more actively in their care. To achieve this, ACT Health engaged vendor Orion Health and used the Rhapsody Integration Engine (and Orion Health Clinical Portal) to enable PCEHR connectivity with minimal changes to existing application architecture.

Orion Health delivered solution design, architecture and implementation services, configuring Rhapsody and the Clinical Portal and integrating via B2B web services after joint workshops. The implementation enables ACT Health to send inpatient discharge summaries (CDA L2) to the PCEHR and lets clinicians view PCEHR Shared Health Summaries, documents, immunizations and advanced care directives from the ACT Clinical Portal—improving clinician access and consumer visibility while minimizing workflow disruption.
