The MPA uses OrientDB to help fight crime

The Ministerio Público de la Acusación (MPA) is the public prosecutors’ office of Santa Fe, Argentina, where prosecutors manage very large caseloads—more than 600,000 cases in recent years and hundreds per prosecutor. Mapping the relationships among accused, victims, evidence, locations and across cases generates complex, highly connected data that traditional relational databases and SQL cannot express or traverse effectively.

To address this, the MPA adopted OrientDB, an open-source multi-model graph database that models entities as vertices and relationships as edges and supports graph/TRAVERSE queries. OrientDB met the province’s licensing rules, offered SQL-like ease of use, built-in clustering and scalability, and now powers an application that stores and tracks case data, notifies prosecutors of related items, and reveals inter- and intra-case connections to improve investigations and crime-fighting.
