Case Study: New.sc achieves 2.5x faster personalized news relevance with OrientDB

A OrientDB Case Study

Preview of the New.sc Case Study

Providing Relevant News to Readers Using Graph Technology

New.sc is a startup that delivers highly tailored news to users with minimal input. Faced with rapidly growing content and the need to detect topics, object–subject relationships and process natural language, their original Redis key–value store proved inadequate for finding the links and dependencies required to surface truly relevant stories.

They migrated to OrientDB’s multi-model graph/document database, using its SQL dialect, vertex/edge model and shortest-path features to uncover relationships quickly. The change delivered about a 2.5× improvement in algorithm speed, simplified relationship formation and enabled a scalable, up-to-date personalized news feed for users.
