A OrientDB Case Study
99Bill Corporation, a leading independent third-party payment service provider in China serving over a million merchants and billions of cards, faced growing, sophisticated fraud that its relational database couldn’t catch in real time. Although the RDBMS could store large volumes of phone, location, and social data, costly joins, slow query responses, and long development cycles made detecting complex, multi-dimensional fraud patterns infeasible.
To fix this, 99Bill piloted and deployed OrientDB Enterprise with partner Mi-Me, modeling users, locations and relationships as graph/document records and running distributed read/write servers with asynchronous sync. The new multi-model solution delivers millisecond traversals, cut query times dramatically (reported 400% faster) and boosted fraud detection by over 20%, allowing the company to flag suspicious transactions in real time.
