Winchester City Council, working with East Hampshire District Council, needed to secure a new waste management contract that would deliver major cost savings and better efficiency across both local authority areas. They turned to Ordnance Survey, using its mapping data alongside Geoplace address information within a GIS to support the planning and analysis.

Ordnance Survey’s accurate large-scale mapping and data helped the partnership identify improvements that led to a new contract with Biffa. The solution delivered savings of £1.4 million per year, improved consistency of data across both councils, and supported faster processing and future web delivery of information to more than 105,000 properties.
