Walsall Council, responsible for a network of 33,000 gullies, faced high reactive emergency cleaning bills and limited visibility of where problems were developing. KaarbonTech provided Gully SMART, a GIS-based solution using Ordnance Survey data, to help the council identify faults earlier, reduce incidents and cut the need for emergency cleaning.

KaarbonTech implemented Gully SMART with OS MasterMap-backed mapping and handheld devices that capture voice, video and photos to map and monitor gullies, triage inspections and alert other agencies. The vendor reports that emergency call-outs were halved and a 50% reduction in emergency call-outs was predicted by 2015–16, allowing targeted spend and measurable service and cost improvements.
